HISTORY
Blades of Steel – Band History
Blades of Steel was founded during the pandemic, a challenging time that demanded resilience and dedication. The initiative came from Yara Haag, who began writing lyrics and shaping the band’s concept, with the support of Bil Martins.
To develop the project’s visual identity, Yara reached out to Rafael Romanelli, who created the cover art for the band’s first release. Rafael also got involved in songwriting and soon became an active member of the group.
As the band was taking shape, Yara invited longtime friend Jonas Soares, who had always been supportive and had previous musical experience alongside Rafael. Jonas contributed to the compositions and helped consolidate the lineup. With the need for a drummer, Marcelo Oliveira joined, completing the initial formation of Blades of Steel.
The support from Metal Relics was essential in bringing the debut album to life, offering production backing and taking charge of the physical release. To ensure top-quality results, producer Rafael Augusto Lopes — known for his work with the band Crypta — was hired to lead the recording process at Estúdio Casanegra in 2023.
After the studio sessions, Marcelo had to step away from the band for personal reasons. In 2024, Bil Martins also left due to health issues, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our journey. Today, Blades of Steel’s lineup features Yara Haag on vocals, Jonas Soares on guitar, Rafael Romanelli on guitar, Filippe Tonini on bass, and Bruno Carbonato on drums.
In 2024, we completed the mixing and mastering of the album and released three singles as a preview of the work. In February 2025, our full album became available on digital platforms, while the physical edition — supported by Metal Relics — was launched at the iconic Hangar 110 in São Paulo.
In 2025, Blades of Steel reached another milestone with the release of Riders of the Night, a song featuring Prika Amaral, guitarist and vocalist of the renowned band Nervosa. This collaboration strengthened the band’s presence in the metal scene and brought significant visibility to their work.
Shortly after the release, important changes took place within the lineup. Drummer Bruno Carbonato stepped down for personal reasons, making way for Lucas Balera, who took over the drums with great energy and technical skill, preserving the intensity that defines Blades of Steel.
Around the same time, Rafael Romanelli decided to leave the stage to focus exclusively on songwriting and the band’s artistic direction. His departure opened the door for Mirella Caramelo, a young guitar prodigy who, at only 16 years old, has shown remarkable talent and musical maturity. Her arrival brought fresh creative energy and reinforced Blades of Steel as a band capable of reinventing itself without losing its essence.
These changes not only marked a renewal of the lineup but also represented the strengthening of the project as a whole. Step by step, Blades of Steel continues to demonstrate resilience, unity, and commitment to taking Brazilian heavy metal to new heights.
